 I was initially skeptical about the upcoming Hellboy picture, as it involves a completely new tale written specifically for the film by the director himself, Guillermo del Toro. Of course, that was before I saw Pan's Labyrinth, and before I saw this trailer. Now, I would literally walk miles over broken glass, barefoot and blistering in the hot Guadalajaran sun, to simply bask in the light of his countenance. Ok, granted - the lead villian seems a little flat. I think he's trying to sound menacing, but his yelling voice just doesn't quite do it for me. But past that, not only do we get a brand new adventure (which makes diehard fans like me light up like Paris Hilton's cellphone on a Friday night) but if you were watching closely, they have included Johann Kraus - the disembodied ectoplasmic remains of a powerful psychic and a member of the BPRD that was conspicuously absent from the first movie - into the cast. This is also the first look at the Golden Army of the title (well, other than a glimpse in this poster ) and it has to be said: nothing says "blockbuster action movie" than an army of giant, otherworldly powered death robots. With Iron Man looking like your stock-standard superhero movie and The Incredible Hulk looking worse and worse the more we see of it (more on this to come), I think it's safe to say that Hellboy II could be the movie that sends me into a caffeine-laced hysteria come this summer movie season. Hellboy II: The Golden Army storms US theaters on July 11th. Will Hellboy II crush the competition in it's massive stone fist? Or will it just maim them lightly and walk away with a witty one-liner?
