![]() And what a trailer it is. Blasted by some for being too "300-ish", this is still exactly the kind of glimpse I was hoping for. As a lifelong fan of the graphic novel (and a fanboyishly rabid fan at that), I have waited in dread for final shots to start appearing. Thankfully, Zach Snyder has again come through for the comic fans out there and the footage from this trailer has totally assuaged any doubts I may have had about this film. I think I'm in love. And - just like falling in love - amidst the floaty butterflies and ethereal giddiness comes the cold, frightening realization... "what if she doesn't love me back"? Sure, I'm subconciously counting down the milliseconds until this movie is released. Yes, I've scoured the net for larger resolution images of Malin Akerman in that skin-tight yellow costume. Yes, I've been contemplating a happy face tattoo. But what if - after all this time, after all this anticipation - the movie sucks hard enough to strip chrome off a fender? I personally trust Zach Snyder will remain true to the source material. His adaptation of "300" sticks in my mind as quite possibly the closest comic-to-film translation to date, so he's earned that trust. From all of the production journals they've released, it's obvious that everyone involved is serious about making this the kind of film that fans have been waiting for, even going so far as to include minor details that only the most hardcore comicshop geeks will catch. Patrick Wilson, who stars as The Owl (the Watchmen universe mash-up of Batman and the Blue Beetle) has even publicly stated that Snyder has retained the bleak ending from the comic, a twist that no one ever sees coming the first time they read the graphic novel. Regardless of what this film will or won't be, this is still one hell of a trailer. From Dr. Manhattan fighting in Vietnam to the Owl Ship launching up from under the water, there isn't a moment that doesn't get my little comic book geek heart a-flitterin'. Hell, it's even enough to make me kinda like that Smashing Pumpkins song again. Watchmen arrives in US theaters on March 6th, 2009. Will Zach Snyder come through for fans? Or will Watchmen be unwatchable? Post a comment and let us know! Comments (3)
