It's been a long wait, but "The First Avenger: Captain America" is officially off to a strong start.
While the project has been in the works for some time, this week Marvel announced that screenwriters Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely would be joining director Joe Johnston in forming the core creative team behind the upcoming Marvel franchise. While these decisions may seem a bit odd at first, looking over their body of work makes me feel like this might finally be the Captain America movie we've all been waiting for. |

Fresh off our recent discussion of the upcoming Captain America film, actor Daniel Craig is slowly climbing up the list of potential actors to portray Steve Rogers/Captain America. Blond haired, blue-eyed, and built like the tank Cap is supposed to be, Craig might just have a shot at the role as long as he's not busy making another twenty Bond movies (which I also wouldn't complain about).
Helping his case is the recently released teaser trailer for Captain America (a BleepingGeek exclusive, by the way). I have personally time-traveled into the future and mugged a studio executive to bring you this footage, so you should thank me. Here, finally: proof that Daniel Craig might just have what it takes...

Update: Marvel has announced the writers and director for this movie and you can read a review of their choices right here: "Captain America Gets a Creative Team" or you can see my #1 choice for casting and a costume design here: "I've Picked My Captain America (and made a costume!)"
Earlier this month, Marvel Studios announced their next four upcoming projects, which including Iron Man 2, Thor, an Avengers movie, and most importantly: a live action Captain America movie, set to debut in 2011.
Tentatively (and horribly) titled "The First Avenger: Captain America", it's being set up to either be a rousing success or a crushing failure. The odd choice for director (Nick Cassavetes, director of The Notebook and the horrible Justin Timberlake vehicle Alpha Dog), the unnecessary Avengers branding (why not just call it Captain America?), and the current rumors regarding casting (more on this below) put this movie squarely on my "maintain vigilance" list of possibly terrible superhero movies (it's right under The Hulk, but before Spiderman 4: Electric Boogaloo).
So my question to all of you out there is this: "Who do you think should play Captain America"?
