New Batman Suit Revealed!
Friday, 15 June 2007
image So, as I wait here in an extremely long line at the tattoo parlor (apparently "I love Chris Nolan" tattoos are more popular than I thought), I just thought I'd post a pic of the newly released Batsuit from Nolan's upcoming "The Dark Knight".

Color me fanatically impressed, as I add this to the ever-growing list of why I'm jittering in anticipation to see this movie.

It's like they discovered how to artificially create Comic Book Fanboy Crack, and now they're mass producing it.

I'm not going to make you wait for it any longer. Here it is:

The first thing I thought when I saw this was: "I need to get tickets for this movie. You think they're selling them yet?"

Besides the obvious changes to the suit (as referencing in the image text), here are a couple things I like about it:

  1. The cowl. This is by far the best part of the suit. I've never really liked the way they've recreated it in past movies, because it always seemed really stiff, and far too cumbersome in a hand-to-hand fight situation. Plus, it tended to make the actors neck seem stiff, but at least now I know why. This is a lot sleeker look, and improves on the cowl in Batman Begins, which emphasized the neck far too much and looked (in my opinion) kinda silly.
  2. The Military/Industrial look. This is also #2 on my list of why I love this franchise (#1 is no Chris O'Donnell). It makes sense that during Batman's early years, he would simply adapt the technology from his companies to suit his personal needs. Sure, later on he could have everything secretly manufactured to his specs, but that's a ways off.
  3. Black is slimming. This new suit looks a lot less like a classic superhero spandex suit, and goes more into the direction of highly flexible multi-use personal body armor. Plus, the angles of the armor plating really cut down on the bulky look of the previous versions and make Batman look more athletic, more like a ninja, less like a bodybuilder.
  4. Gadgets, lack thereof. The other thing I like about this series is it's insistence that Batman only have gadgets that are practical and necessary. There's no "deus ex machina" here. He can't just whip out some stupid gadget that just so happens to be exactly what he needs at the exact moment. He doesn't carry around a personal armory of toys and trinkets in some huge belt. This Batman is much more reliant on himself. On his own skills. Sure, he has some cool toys (love the gauntlet spikes), but they're all there for a reason.

So, yeah. Big fan of the new suit.

Big fan of Chris Nolan.

Big fan of well made superhero movies that focus on story and plot, not explosions and boobs.

I have got to get me some more of that sweet, sweet Fanboy crack. It's delicious!
