LOSTJi Yeon aka: "Must...have...panda bear!" by Peter Sorensen In the seventh episode of Season Four, the complete and total mindf**k continues. Juliet lets a secret slip, and it could mean tragedy for Sun and Jin. Meanwhile, Desmond and Sayid meet the rest of the Boaties, including someone with a very familiar face (c'mon, you should know this by now). Sure, it blew me away last season and left all of us collectively scratching our heads, but now it just feels like we're being tossed around in some kind of schoolyard "keep-away" match. Is it a flashback, or is it a flashforward? Is it the past, is it the future? I suppose I would have been genuinely surprised by tonight's episode, had I not seen it coming a mile away, or had they not prematurely given away the twist. ![]() Jin admires the 'effects' of Sun's pregnancy This is what happens when a show gets unnaturally split in half. This season, originally planned to run back to back for sixteen straight weeks, no doubt had an ebb and flow to the complete story arc. Now, thanks to the WGA (congrats on the extra lucre, guys!), production was halted and the show had to be split into two seperate arcs. Tonight's episode, the resolution to the second act, was no doubt the singular "calm before the storm" episode before the third act kicks into high gear. As a result, we're now left with six more weeks without Lost and on a decidedly morose note. EDIT:Apparently, this is not the last episode of this story arc, as "Meet Kevin Johnson" will in fact be airing next week instead of in six weeks. So... yeah. Just disregard most of the above. Quick Recap:On the boat, Sayid lets it slip that someone let them out of the sick bay, and Frank reveals that not only is the satphone not working now, they've "had a problem in the kitchen", and he warns them against talking to the Captain. Sun and Jin talk baby names, and Jin would like to name their daughter (he's sure it's a girl) Ji Yeon - "heavenly patience" for the uni-lingual out there. In a flashforward, Sun goes into labor. We also see Jin searching frantically for a stuffed panda.I will hunt you down and rip your head off! Kate is obviously pissed at Jack for something because she keeps harping on Juliet and makes a map to Locke's camp for Jin and Sun. Juliet shows up and tries to stop them, and in a moment of desperation reveals to Jin that Sun had an affair. Why? Who cares! All that matters is that afterwards Sun slaps the sh** out of her, and that, my friends, is awesome. Jin is not happy. Sun tries to explain, but he turns his back on her. On a fishing trip with Bernard shortly after, Bernard talks about how staying with Jack was the right thing to do and they talk about karma, which apparently opens Jin's eyes. On the boat, Sayid and Desmond meet the Captain of the boat, but only after learning that Frank has taken the helicopter off on some shady mission, and after watching Regina cover herself head-to-toe in chains and commit suicide by jumping overboard. Fun stuff. Captain Gault (run anagram fiends, run!) stops his crew from helping her, saying that some of the crew has intense "cabin fever". He also reveals that the boat was sent by Charles Widmore. He shows them the black box recovered from the other Flight 815 (the one that was recovered on the ocean floor) and tells them that they want Ben because he might have answers to how and why someone would stage something like that. On the island, Juliet talks Sun into staying. In a flashforward, Sun gives birth. On the boat, Sayid and Desmond are given quarters, but the massive blood spot on the wall reveals what happened to the previous occupant. One of the deck hands is called over to clean it up, and it's revealed to be Michael (which we all knew by now), who is now going by the name "Kevin Johnson". ![]() 'Baby - The Other, Other White Meat' Jin and Sun make up, and Jin forgives her because he knows the man he used to be. He tells her that he'll do whatever it takes to protect her and the baby - wow! Foreshadow much? He asks her if the baby is his, and she swears that it is. Lucky for her, Jin decides not to take their argument to the Montel Williams Show (or as I like to call it - the "Who My Baby-Daddy Is Show") and chooses to believe her. He tells her that she'll never lose him. Somewhere, a sound editor is cursing himself for forgetting to add the dramatic "Duh-duh-dwaaaaaa!" and "ominous clap of thunder" sound effects. In the flashback, Jin arrives at the hospital with the panda, which turns out to be a gift for the newly arrived grandson of a visiting Ambassador that Jin's company wants him to schmooze. In the flashforward (which had it's surprise ruined halfway through the show) Hurley and Sun take the baby to visit Jin's grave. While the episode may not have been quite as action-packed as the last six of the season, we did a crucial bit of information:
Sorry, this part is for members only and may contain spoilers. If you'd like to read it, please LOG IN or REGISTER. Next Week - Episode 4.8, entitled "Meet Kevin Johnson": Ok, I have officially given up trying to determine this show's schedule. In the words of Eddie Izzard: "It makes... no sense". Originally, they were supposed to air all 16 episodes back-to-back. Then, when the strike happened, they committed to airing the eight episodes they already had filmed - more if the strike ended early, which it didn't. Then, they announced that they would only be airing the first 7 episodes, with episode 8 starting off the next arc in April, so that the Michael reveal would be the big "cliff hanger" moment between the two. Now, apparently, they are back to airing episode 8 next week, THEN taking a five week break... I think. Both TV Guide and TV.com have updated their listings to that, so for now I'm going to say that it's definite. Until, that is, we find out next week that they'll be airing another episode the week after or something crazy like that. Regardless, I'm stoked for next week - mostly because the episode was co-written by Brian K. Vaughan, so it looks to be worth the long and potentially psychologically painful wait. But don't worry - until then, we have the following promos and trailers for the upcoming episode: About the Author:Peter Sorensen is a four-toed insurgent from a remote island who spends his days writing and his nights drinking cheap rum and participating in paragovernmental activities. After being deported to the United States over a border dispute, he took up film and animation as a way to pay for his tragic caffeine addiction. When he is not sowing discord on the streets or committing heineous acts of sedition he sometimes finds a moment to sketch. Who's the last of the Oceanic Six? Is a Panda Bear really worth decapitating someone? Post a comment below and let us know! Comments (8)

I think Kate has led the world to believe Aaron is her biological son. He has blood relatives in Australia (Claire's aunt) and there is no way the authorities or Child Protective Services would allow a child to stay in the legal custody of a fugitive who is wanted for murder. I think Aaron is counted as one of the Oceanic Six. I was never a fan of that notion but after seeing the date on Jin's tombstone, I can't possibly believe otherwise. The producers said that after this episode, all of the six would be known. I think Desmond is stuck on the island, with Penny now. I know there are a lot of problems with my theories but you never know with this show.
Someone is going to die in the next episode and my money is on one of the following three: Micheal) He says flat out in the trailer he is meant to die on the boat. I could see him trying to redeem himself or save Walt again by sacrificing himself. Jin) For whatever reason, Jin doesn't make it off the island. This could mean he is dead OR that he could only secure a way for Sun to get off and Sun thinks he died. Juliet) This is the one that really scares me because I like her character a lot. I find it hard to believe Jack would leave her behind after his speech in Season 3 where he promises that they will watch each other's back. Peter, the Kevin Johnson episode airs next week. I'm 100% positive so we'll have a more exciting episode to lead us into this hiatus.

Thanks for the comment manzy704 (and for constantly catching my many, many mistakes
) That's a good call on the blood relatives. However, I'm not sure how she'd pull off convincing them that she was very pregnant when she got on Flight 815, unless she lied to everyone about his real age - 9 months here or there probably wouldn't raise too much suspicion. It could also be why Jack was asked on the stand if he still loved her - maybe she claimed him as the father? They do, after all, share quite a few genetic similarities since Claire is Jack's step-sister. They did say we'd know all six after this episode... I'm stumped. As for who will die? I don't know that they'll reintroduce Michael just to kill him off, so I'm going to take the gamble and say he lives. I also don't think we'll lose a major cast member quite yet, so my guess is one of the Boaties. Maybe Miles gets a little too mouthy? Maybe Kate pays Charlotte back for that crack over the head? Maybe someone dies on Frank's "errand"? Or maybe Frank is going back to the island because they can't reach Charlotte on the phone. Once she tells them about the spy, they may try to weed out who it is, leading to a big conflict on the boat where Michael implicates someone else to save himself, as well as saving Desmond and Sayid - if they know the spy, they could be working for Ben as well. The other thing I'm wondering is how, if they did their research and know all about the passengers of Flight 815... how did they not find Michael on that list? Did Ben pull some strings and have his files changed? Can't wait to find out.

Good point about the passenger list for 815.
Clearly, Widmore almost knew for certain that 815 would somehow be involved with this island he has been searching for. Why even bother to put a bogus black box on the ship? Just in case the captain needs to show it to survivors or does Widmore really believe that 815 wreckage was genuine and hoped to use the black box to help find the island. Even then, how could he come to think that 815 had anything to do with the island if it was found in tact? I do hope someone relatively insignificant dies. The boaties who have been to the island (besides Lapidas) all have knowledge or abilities I want to see more from. For instance, I would love a scene where Miles is taken to the Dharma mass open grave. I'm sure we won't see it, but I love having the possibility. I wouldn't think they would bring Michael back just to kill him off, but I didn't think they would kill of Fisher Stevens after one episode either. When your site takes off huge, you can count on me as an editor!

One question I have is where Walt is. Did Michael make it back to the mainland and then choose to hop on the boat and head back once Walt was safe? Or did they only make it to the boaties' boat and Walt is on the boat too? The fact that Locke saw a Walt projection (bigger Walt I think he called him) might suggest that Walt is still nearby.
I do find it a little surprising that the boaties would be so quick to bring Michael in and make him a part of the crew.

I think that Michael and Walt definitely got off the island and made it back to society. However, as we've seen, Walt has a very strange, almost Jacob-like connection to the island. I think that's how Ben snared Michael. I think Ben has Michael convinced that if Widmore gets his hands on the island and exploits it, something bad will happen to Walt because of that connection.
To save his son and to protect the island, I think Michael is on a suicide mission - get on the boat & make sure that no one makes it to the island at whatever cost necessary. I think that's what he meant by "I'm here to die". He knows that this was a 1-way ticket. Other than for Walt, I can't think of any reason for him to do something that drastic. The other thing I've heard whispers of is that Walt is actually dead. Nothing concrete, mind you, but there are rumors floating that upon leaving the island, Walt eventually gets sick and dies, but his consciousness returns to the island. Michael, distraught at losing his son, agrees to take the mission because he thinks that by dying on the island, he can somehow reunite with Walt. Normally, I'd scoff at something so new-agey like that, but we have noticed that people who die on the island (or who's corpses are on the island) tend to appear time to time in ghost form. Like Charlie when he visited Hurley at the looney bin, or all the times we've seen Christian Shephard. That could be why Miles is on the island, to get information from the dead Dharma Initiative(who would obviously hold a grudge against Ben) to help them take the island. As for how Michael got on the boat, he seems to be just a workhand, basically a sea janitor. It's also apparent that everyone on the boat knows he's the new guy, as he's always the one doing the gruntwork. My guess is that when they were staffing the crew, Ben pulled some of his hoodoo to get Michael on it (like how he "arranged" for Juliet to get to the island).

I can't wait for next weeks episode. I thought the break was only 4 weeks, not 6
Boohoo. Never mind, hopefully next weeks episode will be exciting enough to keep us going during the break! By the way, in your post you said Jin gives birth. I know Lost does have its mysteries but pregnant men? hehe

By the way, in your post you said Jin gives birth. Haha! Yes, that is because when I write these (which is usually late into the night after the episode ends) my brain slowly gets dumber and dumber. Thankfully, I have kind readers that will find these for me. I find that any episode written by BKV, Damon & Carlton, and especially Drew Goddard usually ends up being one of those "what the hell does that mean?" episodes that drops an atom bomb and then quietly leaves the room. I'm sure that whatever they reveal Thursday will be something to think on.
