To kick things off, here is my own personal theory on all things Lost:
Let me begin by saying that this could or could not be "the theory" of Lost. My theory is the culmination of years of contemplation, internet research, and a combination of several different competing Lost theories. Like any scientist trying to prove a hypothesis, I have put my theory up against personal scrutiny and have incorporated new information as well as discarded obviously disproven guesses.

But that's the fun of theorizing about shows like Lost.

Maybe I'm right, maybe I'm completely wrong (most definitely). But it gives me something to look forward to, and everytime something happens in the show that's in line with my theory, I get a little rush of adrenaline.

Ok, so here it is: my theory on Lost (possible spoilers):

Sorry, this part is for members only and may contain spoilers. If you'd like to read it, please LOG IN or REGISTER.

Registration is free, takes only a moment and allows you to access member-only content like this. Also, remember - if you want to join in the contest, you must be a registered member.

That's my theory, hope you like it! Sign up, post a theory, enter the contest and best of luck to all of you!

So I need to have a theory? Isn't it enough just the fact that I love Lost and this website hehe?

I like to read theories but I never had my own. Cheers!

Matej - actually... no.

I did some thinking about this today, and decided that it is still a theory contest, but if people want to just post a comment, they can enter that way as well. The catch will be that if they don't post a theory, I will provide one for them.

So, congrats Matej! You've been entered into the contest.

Your theory (as provided by me) is:
"They are all robots and this is one big training program"

Alright Peter, the show is uploading now... and it's time for my theory.

THE ISLAND: The garden of eden
THE MONSTER: Pandora's special cloud of evil

There's more to it, but buddy... I just can't stay awake any longer.

Sorry, I can't read your theory... because honestly? I'm genuinely worried it will spoil me.

I'll post again tomorrow in more detail. Oh, and by the way.. show worked out to 90 minutes.

That was smart thing to do smilies/wink.gif

Anyway, it would be nice if you mentioned is this giveaway only for people from USA? Because people read your blog who are... I don't know, from - Croatia? smilies/smiley.gif ?

Great question Matej, and no, it's not just for people from USA. We have readers from all over the world, and I wouldn't dream of excluding them in this site's first contest ever.

As long as the winner doesn't live in the frozen wastes of the Arctic (and even maybe then) I can ship pretty much anywhere. So it's fair game for anyone.

Ok, so here are the details:

The island is the garden of eden, a wellspring from which came all of the animals in the world, as well as humanity, and the seeds of what would later be human civilization. This theory only works if one supposes some of the assumptions and stories believed by modern religions are grounded on a foundation of AT LEAST a grain of truth, but in that context, it does work.

THE MONSTER
The "monster" is an extension of "The Serpent" of Genesis. Much like the Serpent, the monster uses deception to work its own evil. This is evidenced by the number of times a Lostie has encountered someone or something that COULDN'T POSSIBLY have found its way to the island... they were all manifestations of the serpent's devious illusion.

THE NUMBERS
The numbers, or "Valenzetti Equation" are indeed aspects that mark the destruction of man. These numbers came about in the discovery of information that wasn't supposed to be privy to the island's original occupants, which then, like the opening of Pandora's box, released them into the world.

THE ANIMALS
It is no coincidence that there are thousands of heretofore unheard of species on the island, nor is it any surprise that one finds things like polar bears in the tropics when one considers this may be the place that all of the disparate species on the planet stemmed from.

THE PROBLEM WITH REPRODUCING
Adam and Eve were banished from the island, made aware of their own nakedness. The "reproduction" issue originates in this banishment. Man is not supposed to be on that island, and while he can conceive there, he cannot reproduce there. This is not a place for men, not anymore.

THE FOUR TOED STATUE
Was either a Graven image, or potentially a statue of Adam? Or the Nephilim? At any rate, struck down.

JACOB
Who Jacob is exactly remains to be seen, but I could either envision him as a lost prophet or as the man who controls the monster. Also possible? Jacob isn't his real name. Jacob is the name BEN gave him while claiming to see and speak to him.

There's more to the show certainly, but this gives a pretty good picture of the theory in progress.

Feel free to add to it, omit portions, or criticize. Talk amongst yourselves.

This is the only theory worth reading...

As you may or may not know, Stephen King is becoming one of the main writers for "Lost." That being said, he will write in the hand of God to swoop down with the fury of 10,000 white burning suns and destroy the planet whilst saving the survivors and bestowing upon them a greater sense of being and faith. Meanwhile, Jacob will materialize run his silky hands across Hurly's cheek while uttering, "Thinner." Now obviously there will be some twists and turns along the way. A killer clown perhaps. A psychotic mystery-novel fan. A man falsely imprisoned for killing his wife and her lover, causing him to evetually break out of prison and restore hope to the comrades he had made while serving his time in the joint. And I also see a kick ass game show coming to the island where people have to run for their lives from trained killers with cool outfits... hmm I think they should call it, "The Running Dude."

Well there it is. Stephen King-->Hand of God-->Thinner...

Fascinating theory. And it would definately explain to me why I feel so LOST whenever I have tuned into the show. You were right on Harry Potter. I'm betting you've got it right here.

Thanks, Peter, for ruining LOST for me. Your theory is way better than mine. Mine involved a golden pyramid, and thousands of naked women throwing little pickles at me. Why am I the only person with that theory? As for the Monster, two words: nanite ninjas!

No need to enter me into the contest, since I received Season 3 for Christmas.
|| January 28, 2008
Peter wrote...
Well, jbsoren - even though you're not in the contest, you do get an honorable mention for the "Real Genius" quote.

I too, thought the smoke monster was made of nanites, but the official Lost podcast proved me wrong when they announced it was not. I'm sticking to my guns, however, in hopes that they'll change their mind because nanites are a friggin' cool idea.

It'll probably end up being something lame like the disembodied souls of the dead on the island or whatever.

So here are my thoughts on it. I have never seen the show. Does that count as a comment? Apparently it is a great show because all you geeks (I say that with the utmost respect) watch it lol smilies/cool.gif

Yes, JShepard - that counts. smilies/smiley.gif

Let's see here... your theory (as made up on the spot by me) will be...

The island is an intergalactic zoo. The Earth was destroyed like Dharma thought, and these people were saved by aliens to keep in the zoo.

God I love that theory Pete. I am honestly flabbergasted by Lost. I used to think that the island represented the nexus point between two parallel universes where inhabitants of each universe saw each other as smoke monsters.
|| January 28, 2008
Peter wrote...
Manzy704 - I'm glad you like it. I really like your theory too. It puts quite the twist on things when you think that Smokey sees the Losties as the monsters on the island. There might be something to that. Maybe that's why Smokey only kills the bad ones.

Best of luck in the contest!

Holy cromoly. My head is swimming here, Pete. Nice upgrade to the site and fascinating theory. To the uninitiated (i.e. never once watched an episode), it is a bit cryptic. Something tells me I should catch up on this show. Anyhow, nice work, I'll stop by again later!

Tom - thank you. Lost is a very involving show. Verrrrrry involving. It's nowhere near as bad as say... Babylon 5 (which had payoffs in season 5 to questions asked in season 1), but it's close. It's a great DVD buy as well because after you watch all 3 seasons, you can go back and there's a whole bunch of little clues and tidbits that you didn't catch that make total sense the second time around. I still find things in old episodes that I didn't catch.

Best of luck in the contest!

I love your theory! smilies/smiley.gif My entry to add to your theory is that Desmond is not the only one who can see the future. Someone else (probably part of Dharma who is still trying to reverse the equation) can see the future. This person saw Desmond not pushing the button and that crashing a plane. This person decided to use that to put certain people on the plane/island. Like Mr. Eko said "Don't Mistake Coincidence for fate." Locke has also said many times that they were brought to the island for a reason.

I know it's a little off the wall, but it is the only thing I could think of.

AllieJaycee - Oooh, good thought! Any thoughts on who it might be? Someone new? Someone we already know?

Wow, I just realized I completely forgot about Walt and his creepy powers! Maybe Walt's powers are related to Desmond and Jacobs too... hmmmm....

Peter - Thanks! I actually didn't get that far in my thought process. Maybe it's whoever inherited Hurley's millions (this person really wanted the money - not to save the world). HA. I kid. smilies/cheesy.gif

I'll give that some thought. I also agree with your comment about how all of these strange powers are somehow related.

Awesome theory Peter!

You know, I'm sure the writers are now cursing you for figuring out their craftily-weaved puzzle.

As for my theory, I must admit that I have none now that I've read yours. Before I read your theory, I was convinced that the man in the casket was Ben, and that Jack went back for the funeral because he felt guilty for not listening to him and screwing everything up. That seemed to explain why Kate wouldn't want to go to the funeral and why nobody else would show up. Also, I'd thought the "him" Kate was going back to was Sawyer. But I like your theory much better.

Wow, there are a lot of new faces posting. Good idea with the contest Peter. Michael Emerson was on the View last week (or so I hear smilies/wink.gif ) and he revealed that someone that the audience has become close with will be departing. Here is to hoping it isn't Sawyer or Desmond.

I only mention Sawyer because his main arc with the origin of his name has been resolved in a way and he is almost a good person now. I find it hard to believe that he wouldn't leave with Kate unless he felt she didn't love him or had no choice.
|| February 19, 2008
Peter wrote...
Haha, I thought about watching Emerson's appearance on the view, but then I too realized that I would have to watch his appearance ON THE VIEW. Haha! Thank god for YouTube.

Since my above theory about who's in the casket has proved incorrect, it's very possible that Sawyer's days could be numbered. With his character slowly become a good guy, what better way to complete his story arc than to do the noble thing and sacrifice himself to save Kate (or some other heroic act)? Plus, we still don't know why Kate and Jack didn't hook up once they got off the island. Perhaps Kate's reaction to Sawyer's death (and possibly what happens in the upcoming episode) could put the final nail in that coffin.

Hello all,

I don't have much of a concrete theory, but I do have a gut feeling Christian Shephard is a lot more involved than we're being told.
|| February 24, 2008
Peter wrote...
Teddy - I originally thought that maybe the Christian Shephard stuff was just the smoke monster trying to mess with Jack, but with the Missing Pieces mobisode where he's talking to Vincent before Jack is even awake (and I'm pretty sure he was in the cabin with Jacob), I'm starting to think he's much more involved too.

Best of luck in the contest!
