    The Heroes Killer Revealed!
    aka: "Thank God for Photoshop"
    by Peter Sorensen

That's right, baby! I know who the Heroes Killer is!

    More importantly, I have proof...

If you don't want to know, don't keep reading, because it's going to be hard for NBC to deny this one, or explain it away (unless Candace somehow survived her run-in with Sylar).

Let me first thank our very own David885 for originally mentioning this pic in a comment for last weeks episode (check it out here). I had seen this picture before while writing my weekly reviews, but I had never stopped to really take a look at it.

Upon a closer inspection this afternoon, I realized that instead of darkening the face in the photo (as most artists would do when they want to keep it a secret), NBC had simply posted the set photo as is.

What does that mean? Well, it means that someone like me, with a background in digital art can go in and adjust the levels of light in the picture to get a better idea of who the "Heroes Killer" really is.

Sorry to NBC and anyone who wanted to be surprised, but the man who has been killing off the older generation of Heroes one by one is...

    Takezo Kensei.

Here is the pic to prove it:

    Image
Left Image courtesy of nbc.com, Right Image after adjusting shadows and highlights

A closeup of the face area, as well:

    Image
Note the similar brow, nose, and jawline

The evidence is damning. It's either David Anders, or a stunt double (he did have to leap off a building) that looks suspiciously like David Anders.

This comes on the heels of spoilers from someone calling himself "insider" on the Heroes forums that reveal that Adam Monroe actually turns out to be the immortal Takezo Kensei, now over 400 years old, and that Peter Petrelli inadvertantly helps him in his revenge against the Company.

If you agree, help spread the word. Tell a friend, post this on forums, digg it on digg.com.

Peter Sorensenis a part time reviewer and is wicked deadly with Photoshop.

haha where'd that pic of Anders come from with the headset?

Well then....Kensei is the killer (part of me thought on intial viewing of that pic that it was peter). So is it him and Parkman's dad who are behind everything? Are they behind the Virus or it's mutated strains? Will it be the Heroes V the Company V Nightmare man and Kensei? Or will the company turn around their evil doings and form a justice league super team to defeat the nightmare/kensei? Have I just posed too many questions?

    Dugg Pete.

And 3 articles this week! Niiiice!

Thanks, Tron! The pic is from his time on Alias, I believe. I just did a google image search and picked the one that had his head turned the right way.

I think it's going to be the Company vs. Takezo & Friends, and all the heroes are going to be used by one side or the other.

First I'll say great work with the photo.

However, I have to agree with Tron that it looks a lot like Peter. Just the way the guy is standing reminds me of the awkward way Peter often poses (kind of pigeon-toed). Plus the chin looks more pointy than Takezo's. Both Takezo and Peter could have survived the jump off the building when Hiro's dad was killed. All this said, I acknowledge that I may very well be wrong...

    Thanks for the comment, ElCortez!

I originally thought it was going to be Peter as well (they look to be the same height), but as I was adjusting the photo it looked more and more like David Anders. The pic I posted was the clearest one of the batch. I'm currently running some tests on the actual footage (this was a set picture) to see if I can get any clearer. At this point, I'm 99% convinced it's Anders, but I'm willing to try for a full 100.

All this said, I acknowledge that I may very well be wrong as well. smilies/smiley.gif

Thanks for the image. I think Maury Parkman is an empath not a telepath. He seems to have candaces illusion power. And i wasnt until he realized matt had telepathy that he sayed he coulddo it too. This means he copied the power from matt right then and could prove that he had it with the static matt heard. He know that if two of the same powers are used it will harm you.
My 2 cents i am looking forward to seeing adam monroe with petter in 2 weeks.

You bring up a good point, Heroes Fan.

If Maury Parkman does really have the ability to create illusions around people (whether he's an empath like Peter, a telepath like Parkman, or can distort reality like Candace), it's very possible that he could still be responsible for Kaito's death. I suppose he could make Kaito see his killer as whoever he wanted him to see, just like whatever he showed Angela Petrelli made her claw at herself.

It would certainly make more sense for it to be Takezo, since he's already shown himself to be capable of doing morally questionable things. For Peter to do it, it seems like he'd have to go through a major character arc. If it is in fact Takezo, and assuming his only power is regeneration, it would seem that he couldn't have acted alone in the attack on Angela Petrelli.

To be honest, I was kind of hopeful when I first saw this episode that there was a new guy doing the killings. Besides Takezo, most of the new characters are pretty blah.

@ElCortez - That's exactly why I don't think it's Peter Petrelli. I suppose I still like to think of him as the Hero. The Ultimate. Regardless of what happened to him, I just don't think he'd be able to kill Hiro's father. Peter and Hiro have a weird "almost-partnership" where they have the same goals, just different paths to it. To get a little blasphemous here, I think Hiro and Peter have a little Jesus/John the Baptist thing going on. They're both incredible heroes, but one is going to step up and be the big hitter and the other guy is going to help him get there. Last season, without Hiro's help, Peter never would have known to save Claire, or defeated Sylar. Maybe this season, it's Hiro's turn to save the day.

As for the video, it appears that the Heroes effects people are far better at their jobs than the set photographers are. Upon processing the frames it was clear that after adding a bluish color wash to the footage (to make it seem more like a cold night) they also blackened the entire area around the face. It's also possible that the lighting director and D.P. are just that good. This means, unfortunately that there's not enough information there to lighten, it just goes from black to grey.

I'm trying to track down a full-res HD version of the clip to see if that will shed any light (oh god the puns) on the matter. I was working off an XViD version of the HD transfer, so the compression may have affected the results.

    Unclebrak - HAHAHAHA! Niiiiice.

I'm sticking with it being David Anders. The picture is misleading, but (and not to sound weird here or anything) there's something really familiar about the way the killer shakes his head when Kaito tells him he didn't expect it to be him.

Being the supergeek I am, I'm also downloading the episode last season where the Company attacks Peter on the roof and he runs and jumps off, just to see if the two runs are similar.

I'm also willing to concede that it may have been a generic stuntperson because they wanted to make sure that they could write the Killer as whoever they wanted later. It's a common screenwriting tactic.

On another note, the WGA did go on strike, effective starting Monday. This means that Heroes may not complete the season, or have a shortened season until the matter is settled. Heroes: Origins, as you may have also heard, has been cancelled and will not be seen. It's my hope that Kevin Smith will release his script, because I'd like to see how he would have interpreted the genre.

This also means that reality and/or semi-scripted shows will be in higher demand, reruns will be more common, and other currently running shows run the risk of being cancelled, shortened, or simply put on indefinite hiatus.

Regarding Peter being the ultimate hero, one thing that has disappointed me is that he doesn't seem to make much effort to truly master his acquired skills. That would be the first thing I'd do. After his revelations while working with the invisible guy, I figured he'd have all of the powers at his disposal (with a little practice).

If he'd practiced flying, he wouldn't have needed his brother to fly him away at the end of season 1 (which I thought at the time doomed Nathan, but I guess not).

At this point, Peter could be flying, invisible, shooting fire (and now lightning) out of his hands, teleporting, stopping time, using telekinesis, and regenerating. Did I miss anything? Talk about wasted potential...

    fungusmonkey wrote...
@ElCortez- Exactly! I rationalized that the reason he couldn't fly himself above the city was that maybe he can only use 1 power at a time, or maybe he was just concentrating all his energy on not blowing up. Then, when they revealed that he had amnesia I was actually pretty angry. It's a lame plot device, always has been. I'm ready to see a Peter Petrelli that has mastered his abilities.

Case in point: the short time he was training with Claude was the best action of last season, in my opinion. There's just something very raw and satisfying about watching him use all his different powers in harmony. I'm hoping that we see some of this in "Four Months Ago" because it's after the bomb, but before the amnesia so maybe he'll have all his abilities working.

As for his powers, there's no telling what he has now. By coming in contact with Sylar, Peter would have absorbed all of his powers as well. Since it's not known exactly how many people Sylar killed before his introduction into the show, the sky's the limit. We do know that Sylar had an ability to figure out how powers work, super hearing, limited flight/hovering, freezing powers, the ability to melt anything at a molecular level, etc. Now, the real question is whether Peter could absorb those powers even though Sylar stole them in the first place.

As for Nathan, if rumors are true then that flight with Peter actually DID doom him.

It doesn't look like Peter to me... no sign of what I affectionately call "The Peter Petrelli Stroke Mouth." The nose on the image looks wrong for Peter, and the skin, from what I can tell, isn't nearly pale enough to be everyone's favorite "someday hero."

In the mythos of the storyline, I think it's very probable that you're 100% correct about Kensei. It would make perfect sense that someone who could regenerate could avoid pretty much every ailment known to man. Especially if there were extra levels of regeneration ability that could be harnessed. One could reverse the aging process altogether.

Does this mean Claire will be a teenage girl forever?

Do you know if the WGA situation was resolved? I hope not. Maybe if it goes on too long, they'll hire some better writers.

This is where the "eternal virgin" controversy about Claire began.

If you haven't heard this theory yet, the basics are that if Claire was a virgin when her powers manifested, she'd essentially be a virgin forever, because well... y'know. (People have too much time on their damn hands.)

And as to the question about David885? My sources say no. Or, to put it another way... no.

November 2, 2007 - As we related in our article about the writers strike beginning this Monday, Heroes is in a slightly better position than many other series when it comes to what could be a severely truncated TV season. Unlike the first season of the show, which told a story arc going across every episode, Season 2 had been structured to tell two or three smaller arcs. The current story (or "volume") is called "Generations" and was already set to wrap up on the December 3rd episode of the show, with the next volume intended to begin airing shortly after.

This gave the show a better place than most to prematurely end the season, as it least was intended as the culmination of several current plotlines. While more episodes have been shot beyond that, they would likely simply be held for whenever the show goes back into production, so that the next storyline doesn't have to be interrupted in the middle.

TV Guide's Michael Ausiello now reports that in addition, the producers of Heroes are going back and filming a new ending for that already completed December 3rd episode, which would better serve to turn the episode into a true season finale. If the strike is somehow averted, they wouldn't use this more specific ending and go back to the original footage they shot to lead into the next story arc.

The writers strike is set to begin Monday November 4th at 12:01 am PT, meaning the Heroes writing staff have until then to finalize the new ending.

Wow this hurts me. To think that writers are going to "kill off" a show because of a stupid strike. What are they getting whipped? Slave wages? Then why do this to your fans? People everywhere, myself included, have grown to care about these charaters and the stories they are involved in. And in the fans as a community care more about a show then the writers then maybe they do need to hire you Pete. You have to love the story your wirting.

The show maybe be slumping but we all had hopes. Is this the reason for sub-par episodes filled with lame dialoge? Because it seems this show has more potential for story twists, action, and discovery built all through it. IF only the writers cared half as much as the fans. And then a new ending. That has disaster written all over it. I feel like they may ruin this budding show with a stupid strike.

I wanted to share the wild thought I just had while eating lunch:

If Adam Monroe is indeed Takezo Kensei, then there's probably some deal of religious symbolism behind naming him "Adam", because he was indeed the first Hero (or so we are led to believe).

This makes sense when you realize that the original casting call for the character called him Takezo Kensei/Kane, and "Kane" was supposed to be 400 years old.

See the connection? Adam... Adam and Eve.... Kane... Cain and Abel. The two brothers. In essence, you could say that Takezo felt he and Hiro were like brothers, the first of their kind. We all know what Cain did to Abel, don't we? And as for Adam, the first man, betrayed by his true love under the influence of the devil? Well, I think you can figure out the symbolism behind that one!

I think the Photoshopped version of the killer looks suspiciously like Charlie from "Lost". But no taped knuckles and no big "DS" ring. Plus, Charlie's only super-power was whining like a little girl. Which wouldn't have saved him from a fall off a building. So maybe it is Kensei.

Funny, but completely offtopic story - I actually considered making "Save Charlie" bumper stickers after they killed him off last season, but mainly because he's such a great secondary character: you like him, but not too much. Thanks, manzy7040! I'd love to be able to do this site full-time and post everyday, but since I haven't found a way to make this site pay my bills just yet, I still have to work at a day job. I try my best, however to get my reviews posted in a timely fashion and cover stories throughout the week as they catch my interest.

Unfortunately, there are some weeks that nothing happens. This week, however, I worked up this image (is it weird that I got a huge adrenaline rush when it actually worked?), the writers went on strike, heroes introduced all those new paintings, etc, etc.

My biggest fear right now is that with the writers all officially on strike, the upcoming episodes of Heroes are going to be very weak (I've heard that the scripts were only second drafts, but they shot them anyway because they wanted to at least have a finale). The Dec. 3rd episode, which was supposed to be the conclusion of the "Generations" arc has now been reshot to be the conclusion of the entire season, which cannot possibly be a good thing. My only hope is that this strike doesn't last very long, and they go back and rewrite and refilm as many episodes as they can before releasing them.

And then what? Without Heroes each week, I'm down one major show. I could always start reviewing less interesting shows if the strike continues, but without writers who knows how long those shows will continue? Lost comes back in February, but I haven't heard anything about how many episodes they had completed by the strike. Thankfully, they banked scripts for the next few seasons, but they may not film all of them without having the necessary writers to "clean them up".

But keep your chins up, fellow fans. I'm currently working on a few ideas on how to keep the site running with new posts in the event of a prolonged strike.

I'm pretty sure its Kensei now. I think that Maury Parkman was honestly scared that Kensei was after him, and worried that maybe Kensei might have hired his son to do the dirty work because of their whole history, thats why he did the nightmare thing.

Also, if it does turn out that Kensei is the killer, and he is also Papa Petrelli like I have suspected before, it would explain why Angela was protecting him, because even though he is trying to kill her, she still loves him.

Never fear, ToriForte, because he's not.

I double-checked the dates and Papa Petrelli died sometime in between the events of "Six Months Ago" and the Season 1 Premiere. We know this because at Peter's graduation from nursing school, his mother tells him his father couldn't make the party because of an important meeting with Mr. Linderman.

This means that Nathan and Peter knew their father up until last year. They would have noticed if he seemed to always be the same age as them.

Also, Peter didn't have his memories swiped until after he met Adam/Kensei, so we can finally put to rest the myth that Adam Monroe and Papa Petrelli are the same person.
