Heroes Loses Two Producers

Along with being preempted by a SNL Election Special last night, it was recently revealed that NBC has fired two prominent producers/writers of Heroes - Jeph Loeb and Jesse Alexander - citing "creative differences" and "budget concerns".

Loeb, best known for his long and distinguished career in comics (including four Eisner awards) and previous work on shows like "Smallville" and "Lost", was one of the last remnants of comic book "street cred" the show still had. Now, with his subsequent firing, it looks like the small glimmer of hope may have all but burned out. Alexander (who wrote last weeks Eris Sum Quod) was adept at taking the nonsensical strings of previous episodes and tying them all back together for the sake of the show. Regardless of the reasons behind their dismissals, everyone should be able to agree that the show will be poorer for their absence.

Faster than you can say “stultorum infinitus est numerus”, it's Heroes: Season Three Chapter Seven, entitled “Eris Quod Sum” (latin for “You will be what I am”). While it's definitely a much better episode than last week, one of the downfalls of serial television is that one hack writer can ruin the show for much longer than his singularly bad episode. Heroes s03e06: Dying of the Light

Normally I give Heroes a pretty wide berth when reviewing it. Like other shows out there that aren't Lost (I'm looking at you, Fringe), I tend to allow certain shows a little more leeway when it comes to believability for the sake of my personal entertainment. But I'm sorry... after the steaming pile of bullsh** they tried to ladle out in tonight's episode I can't hold my tongue any longer: what the hell is wrong with this show? Seriously!

Maybe it's because I've been riding a fanboy high over the past five episodes and reality hadn't yet sunk in. Maybe it's because I truly wanted to put last season's ugliness behind me and move on to a happier place. Maybe they just handed this week's episode over to the wrong people. Whatever the case, in addition to systematically destroying the hard work they've been building up so far this season and undermining the entire series as a whole, tonight's episode had the added benefit of making absolutely no sense whatsoever.
