Battlestar Galacticap: Sometimes A Great Notion
Tuesday, 20 January 2009
There is a problem connecting to the video server.

The first episode of my brand new video podcast "Battlestar Galacticap" is GO!

For some reason, I'm having trouble linking it from YouTube correctly, but I'll keep working on it over the week.

Also, because I totally spaced it and forgot to list them in the credits:

The closing song is:"Sputnik Spy From Outer Space" by the Mod-est Lads.
You can read more about the Mod-est Lads HERE.

Let me just say that 1). the new BSG podcast rocks the casbah, 2). Chuck Heston really is acting at its finest, (Soylent Green is People!!) so I'm not sure I appreciate your snarky tone at the end there, and 3). So what does that make Kara? Is she a new model or something? Also, what is the probability that Tigh's wife is not really the final cylon? Couldn't she just be an older version of the Sixes? Is this some way to throw us off track for a few more episodes? I'm just a bit surprised that they revealed it so early in the final season.

@james -
Thank you for the kind words. It's a little outside of my wheelhouse, but I really wanted to give it a go. This weeks episode was delayed because I was still working on all the graphics (everything in the episode is by me, including the cool lightning storm clouds at the beginning - pretty proud of how that turned out).

My theory about Kara:
She's a Cylon. If the entire 13th tribe was Cylon, it serves to reason that they've been that way for a looong, looong time. My guess is that someone along the line in Kara's ancestry was a member of that 13th tribe that stayed on Caprica instead of migrating to Earth. When she crash landed on Earth, the system that "Ellen" had in place resurrected her and rebuilt her ship somewhere else and imprinted her with false memories and sent her back. Just a guess right now, of course.

Because SciFi channel decided to split up the final season into 2 halves, this episode is actually Season 4 Episode 11. So it's really not that early in the season since we only have about 9 episodes left until the finale. They just broke up the Season because of the WGA Strike and to make more money off the DVDs (sneaky, sneaky NBC/Universal). :)

Pete, awesome job with the updates to the site! Despite the fact that I have never watched BSG before, I watched the video podcast and I was glad to see the same great insight and humor that you've always had in your written reviews. I know you've been busy but PLEASE tell me you're planning to do the same for LOST! Based on the sneak previews from tomorrow's premiere, it looks like this season is going to be perfect for theory speculation and major WTF moments!

Anyway keep up the good work! :D

@darthmike431 - If I did a Lost podcast, it would end up being a 4 hour episode every week. Haha! I actually trim the written ones down a fair margin before posting them. Plus, with a show like Lost I usually have a lot of ground to cover so I'm keeping them as written reviews (same with Heroes - yes, I'm still covering next season of Heroes, if for no other reason than to see it swirl down the tubes).

When BSG wraps up in 9 weeks, I will definitely be putting together another video podcast, I just haven't decided on what show.

One of the problems I've had with the show is that they seem pretty inconsistent in how the Cylons differ from humans and how the F5 differ from the S7. First, there was Baltar's "Cylon detector", which we don't really know how well it worked since he's a lying SOB, but apparently it detected Boomer and not Tyrol. Regular medical exams can't find anything, but Athena (or was it Boomer?) once cut open her arm and plugged into Galactica's computer. You'd think a USB port inside the forearm would show up on an X-Ray. Now they can tell everyone on Earth was a Cylon, presumably of the F5 type, despite the fact that no one, human or Cylon, was able to tell that F5 Cylons were Cylons before.

I don't know what Kara is, but I don't think Cylon is the answer. The whole "12 Cylon models" has pretty much been set in stone. I can't go will Ellen as an "older 6", since presumably someone had to know what she looked like when she was younger. We also know that S7 Cylons don't age from Cavil's remark that all Cylons of a model are identical. He even mentioned the breasts on the Eights being identical, which presumably means there aren't any older Eights with sagging breasts.

Holy website update batman! Nice work pete!!

Should I try and open it in IE6? :-p .Just kidding

Are you using Premiere & After Effects to put these vodcasts together? I'm just getting into after effects at the moment and I'm finding Video Copilot to be the ultimate training source. I did this for my flat mate a month or so ago: http://www.vimeo.com/2212261

Anyways, great work on the site (pity I'm not into battlestar) I'm busy jizzin my pants to Jack Bauer every week (i know, i know .. you despise 24) and trying to get into True Blood too.

Can't wait for lost to start back up!!!
