Heroes: Landslide Review

Landslide
aka: "Heroes (of a 1,000 faces)"
by Peter Sorensen

In this weeks episode of Heroes, Peter pulls it together and controls his newly acquired nuclear powers. Bennett and Parkman help Eric Roberts get back to his "acting" career, Nathan helps Nikki go after Linderman, and Hiro gets a surprise visit.

What can I even say here? When this show ends next week, I will have no other option than to commit hari-kari. That's how good this show is. At the end of this weeks episode I had to actually sit still for a full ten minutes before I could form a coherent sentence again.

It sounded like this: "Did you see when he... and the thing... and just, whoa... Hiro's Dad... and with the... when he... right in his head! Dude!"

Fanboyishness: 1.  Eloquence: 0.

Ah, Lost. In this weeks episode we see how Benjamin Linus came to be on the island. Locke returns to the Others with his fathers body in tow and starts looking for answers. The Losties finally confront Jack about Juliet, and the tape that Sawyer was given. And to top it all off, we finally get to see the mysterious Jacob.

What? Wait... what? You mean... huh? I, uh... uh... WHAT?!! WTF? Does that mean that... wait a sec. Huh?

*scratch, scratch*

WHAT?!!

That's pretty much how I felt about last night's episode. This close to the season finale, I was sure they were going to bring out some big guns, but last night blew my damn mind.

HEROES: The Hard Part Review

The Hard Part
aka: "More setups than a crooked cop convention"
by Peter Sorensen

In this weeks episode of Heroes, we get a glimpse of things to come. Peter and Claire are still trying to save the world (and keep their hands off each other), Sylar gets to play a little Norman Bates, Hiro contemplates a tough decision, and Niki and D.L. basically just run around and suck up screen time.

Let's get right into this at the beginning so I can get it out of my system: I hate setup shows. These are the shows that accomplish nothing during their time other than to move players into position for the next episode(s). It's commonplace in lesser dramas where you're focusing on one main storyline and the writers don't know how to get their characters where they need to be. On a show like Heroes though, you would think that with all the characters running about with all their different storylines, you would never have to succumb to such a screenwriting faux pas. Apparently, this is not the case.

Ah, Lost. In this episode, Locke returns to the Beach and asks Sawyer for a very odd favor (no, not that kind of favor). Meanwhile, no one trusts Jack, Sayid tries to get the satellite phone working, and more plot holes get sloppily filled.

Three years now I have watched Lost. And for three years I have been saying that the show had pacing problems. I have often complained, here and on other sites, that there would be hell to pay for the long, dragging plots that never seemed to go anywhere. And, judging from this weeks semi-flashbackless episode, I was right.

HEROES: 5 Years Gone Review

5 Years Gone
aka: "Off Camera Action FTW"
by Peter Sorensen

It's five years in the future and the world is a bleak place. After an explosion destroyed half of New York City, people with special abilities have become feared, then hated. The government has turned on them, tracking them down like animals. In this timeline, Hiro has spent the last five years trying to pinpoint the exact time and place to change the past, an act he hopes will change the future. Sadly, that isn't exactly the case.

Number One: Milo Ventimiglia (Peter Petrelli) finally got his wish. One full episode without having to brush the hair out of his eyes.

Number Two:   I.   FRIGGIN.   LOVE.    THIS.    SHOW.
